How to Find Hidden Jobs and Get Employed ASAP

Hidden jobs? Don’t worry! Nothing illegal here! A hidden job is simply a job that is not advertised, posted on social media or on job search portals. You’d be surprised to know that a majority of jobs are not advertised anywhere. Imagine the chances of getting employed if you simply know where to look for a hidden job, especially because there are often a lesser number of candidates to compete with!



That does not mean that a hidden job is not worth applying for. Most hiring managers simply ask their employees to refer someone for a particular vacancy, post these jobs on personal networks so their close ones can refer someone, or simply inform recruitment agencies about the vacancy.



Because these jobs are not really advertised, they are called hidden jobs but are equally worthwhile as is any other advertised job. In fact, they are sometimes even more valuable because recruiters favour referred candidates for important jobs.
So bring your binoculars out coz’ we are gonna tell you where to go job hunting!



1. Ask the Right People, Look in the Right Places
Ask the right people if they are aware of any job vacancies. These could be your former employer, former colleague, family, friends, college/university, recruitment agencies and placement offices.You can look for hidden jobs at alumni associations and at the local library which is a repository of business journals and newspapers. You can also look for leads from employees at local companies nearby. Career forums on social media and youth specific websites also have links and discussions on internal vacancies.



2. Increase your Reach through Networking
The bigger your network is, the more vacancies will be brought to your notice. Increase your network by interacting with other job seekers at job fairs, by starting or joining a job search support group, networking with attenders of industry seminars, volunteering at events, and trade unions. You can also get information from Chambers of Commerce to know about start-ups, which are more likely to have numerous challenging job vacancies.



3. Tap the Power of Search Engines
Now, search engines won’t really list out job postings. But, they are still agreat tool to find hidden jobs. Search for keywords such as “hiring”, “recruitment” etc. in Google News Search to find news about local companies. Often, companies announce in press releases that they are hiring or will be having many vacancies soon. Modify the search options by choosing specific localities and industries to suit your requirements. You can also create Google Alerts for your specific searches so you are informed whenever new search results are available.

Bill Gate's message to youth - Rightly Presented!

More and more bright-eyed boys and gals dream of joining the likes of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs – all of whom, apparently,left college to establish multi-billion dollar businesses that changed the world. Reading sensational stories about the success of such millionaire dropouts, students dream of dropping out of collegeprematurely. “They did it, why can’t we? Even Gates is a college dropout. Why go to college when Jobs could start Apple without a college degree”? Well dude, if these are the questions you are asking, you are asking the wrong questions! Because even Bill Gates doesn’t like being called a college dropout!


While Harvard Crimson labelled him “Harvard’s most successful dropout”, Bill Gates says, “It is strange to call me a college dropout in all but the most literal sense. I went for three years and took enough courses to graduate”. Gates was quite close to completing his graduation when the fear that somebody else will make a great computer before him made him leave college for good. He dropped out after reading about a new computer in a magazine. He says, “We were afraid if we waited, someone else would beat us to it. It was a hard decision and I know my parents had their concerns. And while I would never encourage anyone to drop out of school, for me, it turned out to be the right choice.” Bill Gates however does have a degree! He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by Harvard.


Even Steve Jobs who dropped out of his college stayed around the college for a long time, dropping in for free in whichever class he found interesting! As for Zuckerberg, he never intended to drop out of Harvard either. In an interview, he said that when investor Peter Thiel approached him, he denied the offer saying that he had no intention of dropping out of college. Neither did he have much faith in Facebook. But rather than accepting what Mark had to say, Peter Thiel cut him his first big cheque and soon, Mark dropped out.



What youth need to know is that all these protégés already had successful ideas and prototypes at their hands before they dropped out. It is not education that they dropped out from though. They had the zeal to learn, whether in or out of college. To think that you can make it big by quitting college is certainly a foolish move, especially in today’s competitive market. Mark Zuckerberg recommends that youth should utilise their time in college and develop new interests. Even Bill Gates urges students to not quit college! In his blog, Gatesnotes, he writes, “College graduates are more likely to find a rewarding job, earn higher income, and even, evidence shows, live healthier lives than if they didn’t have degrees…It’s just too bad that we’re not producing more of them.”


Zuckerberg, Gates, and Jobs were able to achieve success without a college degree because they already had a set of skills and a functional set of ideas and product prototypes. For others, skipping college will only mean unemployment, credit and a bad quality of life. So before taking their example, stop and think!

Importance of Soft-Skills for Engineering Job Placements

While engineering students realise the importance of technical expertise and mathematical proficiency for a successful career, they tend to underestimate the value of soft skills. Talent Shortage in India…ManpowerGroup Identifies Opportunities for Jobseekers

Talent…where’s talent? According to the May, 2015 report by the international ManpowerGroup's 10th annual Talent Shortage Survey, 58% of Indian employers are facing talent crunch.

What this means is that talented individuals are in for kingly treatment!



The survey points out that more than half of Indian employers are facing difficulties in filling positions especially in the finance, accounting and IT sector.

This demand is expected to go higher up and the mobile technologies and analytics sector will see a similar talent crunch. Apart from these roles, other jobs that are seeing an increasing demand include legal, sales, communications, teachers, researchers, executives and engineers. The inability of Indian employers to find suitable candidates is negatively influencing their ability to serve clients. 



Other countries aren’t better off! Japan for instance is facing the highest talent shortage with 83% employers facing a talent crunch followed by Peru with 68% talent shortage. Other countries high on the list include Hong Kong, Brazil, Romani and Greece. India is at the 7th position globally. This shortage of talent means the labour market in these countries has lots of opportunities to offer for those who are well prepared and skilled.

Job Market Looks Up: It’s Gonna Rain Jobs!
